About me

I am currently programme leader for BSc (Hons) Mathematics with Qualified Teacher Status. I joined UWE as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics in 2014. Previous to this I held a post-doctoral research position at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada, which I obtained after completing a PhD and KTP Fellowship in 2010 at the University of Bath, in collaboration with the MET Office. Prior to my return to academia I had a career in secondary mathematics education and I continue to be actively involved in maths outreach and widening participation through my role as public engagement coordinator for the Mathematics and Statistics cluster. In collaboration with the AMSP I organise and facilitate the Fun Maths Roadshows in schools across the Bristol region, and have developed a number of maths activities for BoxED. I am also a Higher Education Academy Fellow.

Area of expertise

My research interests are as follows:

  • Adaptive Mesh Methods
  • Optimal Transport Methods
  • Numerical Weather Prediction

I work on adaptive mesh numerical methods for solving partial differential equations, with particular application to meteorological problems.

I am currently a member of The Newton Gateway Scientific Advisory Panel. The Newton Gateway to Mathematics is the impact initiative of the Isaac Newton Institute (INI).
