About me
I have extensive experience teaching Film Studies, specialising in film genre, film style and classical Hollywood cinema. I am particularly interested in the interaction of creative, aesthetic and industry factors, and screen representation of gender and sexuality. My teaching includes modules on Film Genre, Contemporary Cinema, Adaptation: Screenwriting and Narrative Form, and supervising Independent Projects.

Area of expertise
I
am currrently developing a new research project on the relationships
between genre canons, 'classic' movies and contemporary film culture. This work develops a fresh understanding of genre canons through a multi-modal approach using quantitative data analysis of plot summaries and qualitative analysis of cinema programming. I am also continuing to work on Cary Grant and acting, including acting as an Academic Adviser for the Cary Grant Comes Home for the Weekend Festival. I have recently submitted an article on '"Sacred Intimacies": Sexuality ambiguity and performance in My Favorite Wife (1940)' as part of a journal special issue on The Production Code Administration, film criticism and history, and co-written an articel on The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1944) for the same issue (both currently under review).
My other publications include essays on Cary Grant, acting and performance, a monograph on Hollywood Romantic Comedy (2006), essays on colour, widescreen spectacle, and CGI, and co-editing Neo-Noir (2009).
In addition to romantic comedy and noir, my film genre expertise includes horror, crime and psychological thrillers, in both transnational and Hollywood contexts.
